Welcome to

Ellen Kushner’s Bad Advice:

A Hawk & Handsaw Emporium for the Discriminating Reader,

where I will natter on about things that interest me, including writing fiction (including bad advice on same), publishing, daily life in New York City with my brilliant and beautiful wife Delia Sherman, and things I think are important, including but not limited to Judaism, Shakespeare, poetry, kindness, other writers (both living and dead), fantasy and mythic fiction, and strange and compelling anecdotes from my past not available elsewhere.

I’m also very interested in your questions, and in running silly contests.

And finally, I’ll be posting upcoming events I’m taking part in.

Stay up-to-date

You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox. Or so they say.

And you might be able to hear me talk!

Why subscribe?

Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and concomitant website. Never miss an update, since posts are bound to be highly irregular.

(But for a fee? I’m not sure. I wasn’t planning to make any money or do any extra work for this. But I like the idea of regularly donating something to a favorite charity. Maybe even running a contest each month where a subscriber gets to pick the charity! Stay tuned. I’ll let you know.)

And, of course, your thoughts are nearly always welcome.

—Oh, hey! They’ve just Beta’d a PODCAST feature here! What would it be worth to you to hear me talk?
